It may be that the Properties of the icon you use to open IE are set to "window" rather than Full Screen.

highlight the icon (or even short-cut/menu item) and right click on it, and then select Properties. If, you are able to, check through settings there (can't be more precise as it depends on version of IE and version of Windows) and look for clues about Open As (or the like).

But Firefox is better:

just use firefox, its faster and more secure
you can do a system restore point by going 2 programs-accessories- system tools - system restore. and do this to a time month earlier
IE Was not Deleted, You would of known it severly, if this was the case, IE is integrated into Windows and Windows Explorer, the shortcut may have been deleted, even when folks uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs, It's still on the Machine, Look in C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer... Good Luck
yes, try it.

If for some reason you can't download it. Insert the CD your computer came with and reinstall IE. Then update from there.
If it's not just a missing shortcut go to Add/Remove Programs %26gt; Add/Remove Windows Components, check its box and "Apply" or "OK".

Is IE Defender different from Windows Defender?

There was an earlier question about IE Defender and the advice was to remove it as it was malware. I have Windows Defender on my lap top and I thought it was ok. Is it different to IE Defender.

Is IE Defender different from Windows Defender?windows firewall

Windows Defender is a new security program that helps to protect your PC from spyware and other unwanted software. This program works on Windows XP %26amp; Vista.

In the other hand, IE Defender is a rogue anti-spyware application that displays exaggerated security alerts difficult to close in an attempt to trick you into purchasing the full IEDefender version. IEDefender is able to hijack your web browser and state that you鈥檙e infected with spyware and that you need to download IEDefender to solve your problem.

Is IE Defender different from Windows Defender?microsoft frontpage internet explorer

Different things. I can confirm that IE Defender is malware, WIndows Defender isn't. You're okay.
yes.

here are manual removal instructions:

IEDefender is an extremely dangerous rogue software created by programmers from Russia. It may be installed manually (from www.iedefender.com) or using security holes. Once the IEDefender is installed, it will start showing fake security messages that your system is in danger and will trick you into buying its full version. IEDefender may steal your secret information (passwords, credit card numbers, PayPal accounts). IEDefenders work may damage Windows registry and cause system slowdowns and crashes. It may be difficult to remove IEDefender manually because it loads on every Windows startup and has an ability to renew itself if you try to remove it

Uninstall IE7 by going into add remove programs and see if it is there if not then check add remove windows components and uncheck explorer. Reboot your computer the go back to add remove programs and click add winodws components and check explorer and that will install explorer 6
Go to tools, the tool icon that is on the toolbar, (with the gear next to it), then click phising Filter-Turn off Automatic Website checking. This is part of the reason that IE-7 goes so slow. I have cable, and it slowed my down, so I turned it off. I never had it before, so I figured I don't need it now.. I never did have any problems with IE-6 without a phising filter. Give it a try, and see if it makes a difference. You can always turn it back on..Good Luck..
Have you cleaned out your Temporary Internet Files and Cookies?

The IE or Mozilla Ff speed may may be bogged down because of your temporary Internet file is stuffed and cookie folder too.

If you are using IE 7 click on Tools, click on Internet Options. If the General tab is in display mode, under Browsing history you will see Delete and Settings.

Click Settings first; and IE 7 will give you the best settings for your computer. If you have used your computer a good deal this week or longer, click Delete and the browsers temporary stuff it stored will be deleted.

You should get better performance.

uninstall IE 7 and install IE 6
You cannot run both from the same machine.. Keep IE 6 and install mozilla firefox 2.0. Its better than IE 7 and it wont interfere with IE 6.
Just go into add/remove in the control panel and remove IE 7. And you'll get IE 6 back.
my suggestion is not to remove IE7, but to see if you can install IE6 to a different directory (.../program_files/IE6a...) or something like that.
actually, you CAN run both on the same machine, but you have to use something like Virtual PC to run it.

IE/Firefox compatability problems, style sheet's?

Alright, I've been in charge of designing a new site for internal use with our company (I'm an intern, CS major, so HTML coding and web design was not the basis for my education, so I might be missing something obvious). I've used a lot of div blocks to position items, and linked them to buttons that hide and show each piece of information. The problem I get (i'm designing in dreamweave) is that firefox and IE don't agree on placement. I have it optimized for IE right now, and can easily reposition everything to look good in firefox, but not both.

Again, all the positioning is done using div id's, in a large style block at the top. I had read about using different style sheets for different browsers, though I'm not sure how to do that. it seems like it should be possible to detect the browser, and then use the style tags (for instance #misc { position:absolute; left:93px, top:328px }, one set for IE, the other for firefox. Any idea's? Am I making sense? :)

IE/Firefox compatability problems, style sheet's?microsoft vista

Yeah, this is the designer's dilemma. Firefox is closer to being standards-compliant, but more people use Explorer. Boo!

You can use javascript to detect the browser and point to your stylesheet custom-made for that browser:

http://javascript.internet.com/snippets/...

Or, simple-like, you can use a # in front of the attribute to make firefox ignore it and explorer use it.

For example:

#myDiv {

border: 1px solid #FFF;

float: left;

width: 30%;

margin-left: 30%;

#margin-left: 31%; %26lt;!-- firefox will ignore this and explorer will use it --%26gt;

}

Good luck!

IE/Firefox compatability problems, style sheet's?windows xp pro internet explorer

You can try using relational positioning as opposed to absolute. Meaning you use percentages instead of fixed sizes.

You can also use a simple Javascript snippet to find the web browser when the user loads the site. Then have it include one css file for IE and another if it is Firefox, and another for Safari, etc.

Code:

%26lt;html%26gt;

%26lt;body%26gt;

%26lt;script type="text/javascript"%26gt;

var browser=navigator.appName;

var b_version=navigator.appVersion;

var version=parseFloat(b_version);

%26lt;/script%26gt;

%26lt;/body%26gt;

%26lt;/html%26gt;

You can then use an IF statement to check the browser value, if it is Internet Explorer, then include......css

and so forth
You can create 2 separeted CSS files depending on a browser. You detect what browser is in use and include relevant file like this (in PHP):

%26lt;?php

$browser = strtok($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'], "/");

switch($browser){

case Opera:

echo "opera";

include "opera.css";

break;

case MSIE:

echo "Microsoft Internet Explorer";

include "ie.css";

break;

case Mozilla:

echo "Mozilla";

include "firefox.css";

break;

case Safari:

echo "Safari";

include "safari.css";

break;

}

?%26gt;
I recommend developing the site/page for Firefox first as it is a more web/css standards compliant browser. Put all your CSS into one stylesheet and link to it in the header per normal.

To handle CSS for IE issues, you will need to apply additional CSS in a separate stylesheet. I suspect the problem that is affecting you is known as the "IE Box Model Effect". Google it to find out more. You can detect the browser in the header with the code below. Add a link to the second stylesheet within the if statement for fixing the problems in IE.

%26lt;!--[if lte IE 6]%26gt;

%26lt;style type="text/css"%26gt;

@import "http://www.yoursite.com/style_ie.css";

%26lt;/style%26gt;

%26lt;![endif]--%26gt;

I set the if statement to check the version number as well. IE7 fixed a lot of the major standards issues but there are a few that remain. So applying hacks for all IE versions may break it in version 7. Typically, the default stylesheet for Firefox will work for IE7 with no issues. You can add a third stylesheet for IE7 with a similar if clause:

%26lt;!--[if gte IE 7]%26gt;

%26lt;style type="text/css"%26gt;

@import "http://www.yoursite.com/style_ie7.css";

%26lt;/style%26gt;

%26lt;![endif]--%26gt;

I believe this is the best way to handle CSS hacks for browsers as it works with standard HTML. The other methods posted here primarily use javascript which works until you have a user that has javascript disabled. Using PHP only works if you are developing in PHP and have PHP installed on your web server. The other method using # is workable too but can make your stylesheet very difficult to follow/update and breaks in Apple's Safari. The good news is that IE8 will be CSS-compliant but unfortunately, it will take years to get all the users off these old versions of IE even if they have better features and signifcantly better security.

Best of Luck. :0)

Come back IE 6!?

My boyfriend downloaded IE 7 on our laptop (probably because a shiny flashing ad told him too) and it sux. I want to uninstall it and download IE 6 again. Is there any way to do this?

Come back IE 6!?windows media player 10

The right answer is to go into the control panel and add/remove programs then remove Windows internet explorer 7.0 but there are fine details that you need to know.

Reboot the pc first and make sure no other software is running when you remove IE7. Close any extras you have runing in the system tray (by the clock) if you can and then do the uninstall.

Uninstalling IE7 rolls the PC back to IE6 automatically after the reboot. Make sure you reboot as soon as the uninstall is done. Once it reboots then you should be ok.

Do not use the system restore function to remove IE7. I have seen more than 2 dozen XP PC's come in the shop that have the OS trashed from using system restore to remove IE 7. For some reason they don't get along all the time and you end up with a mess. I don't know what people are doing to cause this as they are already trashed when I get them. Since MS has been pushing IE7 through the automatic update function, there have been tons of problems. You can go to windows update and unselect the IE7 option and it won't bother you again. You will get a warning when you visit WU but it's no big deal. You can also de-select it in the auto updates just like you do in WU.

Good luck

Come back IE 6!?microsoft net internet explorer

i wish i knew how cause i don't like it either
just do a system restore

before it was installed
Use your System Restore if you have Windows XP.

Click on "start"

Go to "programs"

Choose "accessories"

Go to "system tools"

Choose "system restore"

On "system restore" choose to top box that says "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and click next.

Next screen that comes up choose a date from before Internet Explorer 7 was installed.

Computer will restore IE6 and restart.

You now have Internet Explorer6 back!

*******This may sound complicated but actually only takes a few minutes.*******
I know! I hate some of the features- whenever I open up a window, I have to take 3 more steps to find it.
To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 to return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP

Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel."

Click "Add or Remove Programs."

Check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box.

Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 7 that you are running, and then click "Change/Remove."

Uninstall that,restart your PC and you are on IE6
First download the IE6 setup from the microsoft website.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/...

Once that is complete, go into your contorl panel %26gt; add/remove program. Select IE7 and click remove.

Once IE7 is removed, restart the computer and launch the IE6 setup. IE6 will walk you thru the rest of setup.

I would recommend staying with IE7 and make sure you have the full release. You can get IE7 official release from the MS site. Tabbed browsing makes a world of difference.

Good luck.
do as classic suggests above its easy , system restore is too much hassle
You can uninstall it via Add/Remove Programs, but I suggest you to use Opera or Firefox instead. (no pop ups, no malware software comming through, tabbed browsing, mouse gestures, widgets just to name a few benefits)
I suggest you get used to IE7 because Microsoft will slowly make it compulsory for everyone to upgrade.

If you don't like it, I suggest you try FireFox browser.
before you to that... try firefox. it's the best internet browser, ever. even microsoft admitted that firefox is a whole lot better; microsoft wanted to ask for their advice on internet security issues.

Javascript Debugging Possible in IE?

Is there a reliable solution for performing javascript debugging within IE? I'm now used to the brilliant modern solutions within Firefox (ie. Firebug) and so it comes as a great frustration when having to debug the endless IE specific problems. I've tried the VS .NET 2003 debug process on Iexplore.exe but I'd say 99% of the time the technique fails, that is the "Running Documents" tab is never filled with the running javascript files currently in the browser and so I am unable to insert breaks to begin debugging within IE. I've also tried the "debugger" keyword but again IE doesnt acknowledge it. Guesisng where the code will fork to and inserting ALERT statements are killing me.

I'm just looking for a reliable approach to debugging JS issues within IE. VS.NET process debugging more often then not doesnt work and this is just wasting time.

Thanks for any solution.

Ooki na ie, chiisa na ie?

Somebody can explain me why "okii" to "chiisai" can be used in the form "ooki na ie" "chiisa na ie" and also in the form "ookii ie" "chiisai ie"? They are "i" adjectives but we can use them also like "na" adjectives?

I know that we can use them in both ways in certain cases, but I dont know why...

It's because without that second i they are not i-adjectives.

Most likely causes are:

There might be a typing error in the address

IE7 was about 5 years in the making. Microsoft didn't feel the need to share information with other developers about the coding that would be used in IE7, etc. As a result, a whole lot of incompatibility exists. You might find this website interesting reading, especially the "known issues" section and the part about how to get sites that don't recognize IE7 to work:

My computer says I already uninstalled Internet Explorer 7 yet it still operates. I tried all the tricks to revert to IE 6 to no avail - none of the tips or answers work. I thought I'd just use another browser so I installed Firefox with no problems; however, my system won't open it. I don't know what to do because I hate IE 7 but seem to be stuck using it. It won't even allow me to go into the Internet Options toolbar so change settings or anything. My computer is totally screwed up because or IE 7. I need serious help.

While downloading IE 7, shd I run or save. Also why do I get warning that it is not safe to download

Internet explorer being well known, why this warning. If 'Run' is clicked, does it mean IE 7 will be availed only in that session and next time we log in it will revert back to the existing IE 6?

While downloading IE 7, shd I run or save. Also why do I get warning that it is not safe to download. Help.?microsoft project

I assume that you are running I.E and you want to download another version of I.E. In your case I.E 7. When you use your current version of I.E to download a file. You should know that I.E is designed to prevent AtciveX. In the sense it is designed to prevent programs installing on your computer without asking you. Imaging if some of this programs are viruses or spywares. You don't want them to be install on your computer automatically when you accidentally run into a web site.

Open: Download the program in cache or as temp file and open it when the file is fully downloaded. You should be confirm when opening a file. Click open if you would like run it else click cancel.

Save: Save this file or program some where on your hard disk. If you click the save button it will open a little window prompt you where you want your file to be save. If you choose to save the file you should also remember where you have saved this file. So you could find the path to this file and open it or on this talk, installing you I.E 7.

It is safe to download because it's been tested and I used it and you should use the run button to use it stright away.

And it will not revert, the warning was wrong it is safe.
"run" means it will directly installl

"save" means IE7 setup file will be downloaded to your system..you need to install it by running setup

i think save is a good options..you will have an backup ...

whenever your download an exe file..it can be infected..thus the warning

IE and Firefox question. Can someone please help?

I had IE as my default browser, and now I downloaded Firefox because it is supposed to be more secure. They say it is very easy for hackers to be able to get you through IE. Now that I have Firefox as my default browser, is IE still running? So therefore, can hackers still track me. Do I have to disable IE or something?

IE and Firefox question. Can someone please help?windows live messenger

Dont worry, you dont have to disable IE6. IE6 is less secure that firefox because of the number of unpatched vulnerability. Thoses vulnerability could be exploited while browsing the net with IE6. So if you are using firefox to browse you can be affected by hacker stuff that would exploit an IE6 vulnerability.

I wouldnt even recommand to try to remove IE6 since its so tied with Windows ... you could end up having some trouble if you remove it. Just dont use it and you will be fine.

once you switch over to using ff as your default unless a program make a specific call for IE it will use firefox. You can uninstall IE from add/remove programs in windows programs section (please correct me if i am wrong here)

I had a problem with my Dell desktop when i downloaded IE7 with an error on my desktop showing every time I would restart my pc and had to click it off. I had gone to the Dell Community Forum to post a question on why and how I could get the error off and I had people email me back as to what I can try to do to fix it. I got it fixed from appearing again. One reply was that IE7 was the buggiest software release in Microsoft's recent history...yikes...I will not install IE7 on my laptop until the bugs are fixed. Maybe you should either uninstall it and put IE6 back or ask the Dell Community Forum on Dell's website. You will need to make a screen name and password to post questions if you decide to join and ask Dell. You do not have to tell them what brand of computer you have.

Open up IE. Then go to the menu and select Tools%26gt;Internet Options and click on the program tab. Near the middle their should be a button called "make default" click on it. You could also put a check mark in the box tell me IE is not the default browser too for extra measure.

I have noticed in IE7 that when I click a link or open a 2nd or 3rd browser that focus returns to the browser that is loading, even when I have minimized it so I can read something else in the meantime. Not sure if it's advertising related or just a default behavior that forces you to watch a web page as it loads. Like watching paint dry.

It's pretty annoying, but I haven't heard or read anything about it being a problem for MS.

I installed firefox a few days ago and made it my default browser, but then I noticed IE was not working right anymore, so I uninstalled firefox thinking this would fix IE. But now when I open an IE page I get the home page (yahoo) and all I can do is click links on the home page to go to pages (i.e. yahoo answers). But if I try to go to any other website, i.e. by typing an address into the address bar and go to that address, I get "application not found." I have done several system restores, but each time it said the system could not be restored. I also did a virus scan and went to tools and chose reset browser and checked the box that said check if IE is my default browser, and also went to add/remove programs, chose set program access and defaults, chose custom and set internet explorer as the default, then I rebooted, but I still get "application not found." Why am I getting this message in IE and how can I fix it? Thanks. 10 points.

That's why I advise people not to install Firefox - it's too buggy and unstable. Firefox must have messed with the system and disabled something.

To be safe. Download internet explorer (6 or 7) and save it on a folder you know where to find. Close all running programs and browser as well. Then go to control panel - add/remove programs and uninstall which ever ineternet explorer you have there. If your PC prompts you to restart, do it. After, go to the IE you downloaded and install. After it's up and running go to microsoft and manually search %26amp; dowload the latest updates for your PC (in case the windows updates site is not installing the updates). I included this as a precaution. Anyway, right after your new IE is installed it should already be fine.

Uninstall IE?

Can anyone please walk me thru the steps of unstalling IE from my pc? Please!

Im using IE8, I dont want to uninstall it to go back to IE7, I know how to do that. I just no longer want IE from my pc.

Thanks for all your help. Suggestion will be appreciated, but do not judge !!!

Uninstall IE?microsoft sql server

IE is integrated with the Windows environment. Although it no longer strictly relies on it, Windows considers it a system file, and will automatically replace it if you attempt to delete it. You could delete it from the backup cache in Safe Mode, but it would be replaced if you ever need to repair your system files.

The only real effective way to remove IE is to keep it from ever being installed in the first place. You can remove it and create a custom Windows disc using nLite (for XP) or vLite (for Vista).

I'm not sure that you can. IE comes with the Operating System.
My advice is to go to Microsoft Website and search for the question ' How to uninstall IE V.6" as this will solve the problem, and I can remember i try this way some times before
Do not un-install IE. Your PC will need it!!

You can still keep it on your PC and use the many other 35= browsers on the market with no conflict at all.!!

Complete Browser list, reviews and top tips.

http://pcsecuritycentral.blogspot.com

PS.. I am not judging, im just part of the jury:)
install it over them .

you cant remove IE from pc!
You cannot uninstall IE, it is an intergral part of Windows. Doing so will likely totally bork your operating system.

Besides, without IE you can not receive Windows Updates, and without installing Windows critical updates, your computer will be a malware magnet.

Firefox and IE not showing images in My Yahoo. Strange address associated with images. Spyware?

When viewing My Yahoo, some of the pics don't show up in IE or Firefox, just the red x.

I have reformatted my c drive, wiped it clean and reinstalled Windows. I have run Norton, Symantec, Hijack This, Ad Aware, Windows Defender, and AVG. None of them found anything exciting. I also tried plugging my cable modem directly to the computer rather than through the router.

With the kagemusha address showing up, it seems like a virus/spyware but why only on Yahoo?

Firefox or IE 7 ?

I am using IE7 on a Windows XP computer and having no problems at all.

I wish to download and run Firefox.

If I download and run Firefox will it wipe out my IE 7 or my "Favorites" or do any damage to IE 7 ?

If it's ok to use Firefox is there anything I need to know?

Firefox or IE 7 ?microsoft access

Since I switched to Linux I use Firefox, Konqueror, Seamonkey and Opera. Something you should understand: Firefox and Seamonkey are both in a real sense descendants of Netscape, which itself was available for Unix and Linux before it was available for Windows. Using them in a Unix-like environment makes perfect sense, but of course I find it sensible to use a Unix-like environment. The security advantage of Netscape-enabled browsers, frankly is precisely that they are not tightly integrated into the operating system: in Linux they operate in user space and in fact I've surfed the net comfortably using versions of both Firefox and Seamonkey which were installed in my /home directory and had no permission to write anywhere but to my personal account.

Frankly, the current version, Firefox 2 is a memory hog. This has something to do with that a lot of it is written in an interpreted language callled XUL. Firefox 3 reportedly runs much better over time (though it takes as much memory initially). It's supposed to be officially released in the next month. You might consider waiting or downloading the beta version.

That said, obviously you can run both IE 7 and Firefox, or should be able to. This is also true of Opera and any other browser availabe from a third party. You shouldn't do any damage to IE. There is no reason, should you try to run another browser, you shouldn't continue to use IE unless like so many of us you decide to give up Microsoft software. ;-)

Firefox or IE 7 ?windows mobile 6 internet explorer

You can have both programs, I prefer Firefox alot more..never had problems with it, but Explorer was a pain in the butt for awhile. You will have to save your favorites into your bookmarks in Firefox.
Firefox is the best in my opinion. It will not wipe out IE. It will ask you to import the bookmarks from IE actually.

Firefox is safer, and more secure. Plugins make it great!

Check it out..read the about, features, etc..then decide if it's right for you.
Avoid Firefox!

When you download Firefox, it comes complete with free membership in a cult religion. You will need to face the West and bow down and pray to your new god, Mozilla, at least 5 times a day.

Of course this "free" browser comes with a steep price. You will be encouraged to become an evangelist for the "cause" (see "answers" above^) by being pressured to join the "Spread Firefox" propaganda campaign:

http://www.spreadfirefox.com/

You will be required to constantly spam newsgroups and forums (Yahoo Answers included). To anyone that posts or asks any question about Internet Explorer, you will be required to reply that the only solution is to dump IE and use Firefox. You will annoy people with shouts of "Firefox has a built-in pop-up blocker...Firefox has a built-in pop-up blocker", despite the fact that Internet Explorer has had a pop-up-blocker ever since XP SP2...almost 4 years ago.

You see, the truth has never been important to Mozilla / Firefox. They have their own dangerous socialist / left-wing agenda.

You must understand that this religion, just like all the others, has its own devil, (Bill Gates), and its own Hell, (Redmond). From this day forward you shall devote your entire life to saving the world from Microsoft.

If, you become one of the chosen disciples of this cult, you will be allowed to help in the coding of new versions of Firefox. Of course you will not be paid for your efforts. Despite the fact that Mozilla Corporation had 2006 revenue of over over $70,000,000.00 USD:

http://www.calacanis.com/2006/03/06/fire...

It prefers to brainwash its followers into toiling for the Mozilla Mother-church for free. Slave labor is always best. Firefox / Mozilla Corporation loves to cry poor-mouth. And the lemmings always follow.

Of course the hierarchy of the church, such as High-Priestess and corporate president, Mitchell Baker, ARE well compensated for their work:

http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2007/01/money...

Funny how that works, isn't it?

I am surprised that Baker hasn't taken to wearing her own version of the Papal Hat:

http://juliuspaintings.co.uk/cgi-bin/pai...

Perhaps one made out of flea-infested fox pelts! It would certainly help to hide that hideous hair-do of hers;

http://www.siliconbeat.com/entries/peopl...

Firefox...the browser of choice of pimply-faced, male adolescent fanboys, who are badly in need of female companionship; and aging hippies with gray ponytails.

HA...;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)
I think OPERA is nicest, but I use Opera AND Firefox, so that if I want to use the slightly less secure firefox with all of it's great add-ons, I click my 'drag n drop' Opera button labelled 'inFF'.

I did sometimes use inIE - but find now that IE isn't a patch on either Opera or Firefox. Firefox is best, but Opera is much nicer to use and more responsive.

Get firefox, then click 'tools, add-ons'

Then install the following to start you off with a much better net experience:

Adblock

Bandwidth diagnostics

Customise Google

Download Helper (for flash video)

Mouse Gestures

PDF Download

Session Manager

Speed Dial

Stop Autoplay (stops google video's autoplaying and sapping your bandwidth until you click them)

Stumble Upon - the single BEST ever add on

Unlike the man above me, I think the single reason for leaving IE7 behind is that it cannot offer these add-ons, and it is not free - Microsoft is very bad - and don't give you the choice of avoiding use of IE, however I find that many sites I cannot log into with IE7 are accessible with firefox and opera.

IE7 is too heavy to access my hotmail account most of the time, but FF opens it very easily and quickly. It's TRUTH that guides me, not an irrational need to defend Windows.

Now I use linux, and find Firefox to be identical on this platform, and it's the same on my friend's Macintosh.

What about IE7? search Google for comparisons
Firefox will not affect IE7, and for my money, IE7 is considerably faster than Firefox, and if you browse smartly, any security concerns are limited. Firefox is also a bit of a pain when it comes to constantly having to dowmlaod and update add-ons, though i will say there are LOTS of great add-ons to Firefox that you cant get with IE, so it is def worth having both on your computer.

And what that last guy said is priceless, though i wish i had the time he had available.
i use firefox, and i've had no probs. my comp is windows xp. if it ain't broke, don't fix it. i would be a little wary of downloading IE7, for the fear of messing stuff up. why do you want firefox if nothing is wrong?

You have malware in your system.

Let me give you my views, especially about Microsoft and security software. Several free online scanners can detect and remove your popup. Of course the free program that installed the popup may not work anymore, but oh well! Maybe this spiel will help you prevent such things in the future.

IMHO, Symantec/Norton is the best and the authority on security and protection. When others detect something, they will often direct you to Norton/Symantec "Symantec Anti-virus Research Center" (SARC) to find out about the virus and how to remove it.

They all like to claim they detect the most. But detection is not what its all about. They need to detect before the infection, and instead of just removing the virus do they help repair the damage the virus did? Norton often can provide a small utility to remove, and repair the damage. This is why the others send you to SARC. They fully describe the virus, and its danger, what it does, how to detect it, what it did, and how to repair it.

These kind of programs are inherently trouble because the embed themselves into all the operations of the computer. If they didn't they wouldn't be so much trouble, but they don't work as well either. Many people look at the learning the program does (what program is allowed to do what) as trouble because it asks questions. To me its reassuring, as long as it eventually go away. I always turn off what I don't need, and never have had any problems with Norton.

Some will tell you that they have used product X for years, its free and it has never been any problem. Sounds penny wise, and pound foolish to me. If it is never any problem, maybe its just superficial to make you feel like you are protected. Like masturbation, or a condom, a feeling of security while you are being screwed. And if its free, you can be sure they are not on the cutting edge of the technology like hackers and their ilk are.

Many of our customers have used the freebie types of products, they seem to change their mind when we have to wipe their drive and re-install.

Norton is the 400 pound gorilla on the block. But I always try to root for the underdog. Several others are the big boys too. Mcafee has been tried tested and trusted by home users for years. Kaspersky is used by many of our local hospitals and schools. Of course some people know more than the IT tech's with their schooling. All to save $20 a year.

We currently are selling Mcafee A/V for less than $15. Kaspersky internet security (complete Suite) goes for $22.

As for the big boys trying to sell you something, the only thing I have seen them try is to sell you a new subscription after one year.

I usually will just wait until a month or two after the subscription runs out and buy the latest program (rather than a renewed subscriptions to just the antivirus updates). They usually improve the program or at least make it more effective every year.

For $20 a year for a new program, and 1 year subscription, how can you go wrong?

Good luck, and if you are buying security software, I have found it to be better to get the whole suite of programs rather than just the antivirus or spam, etc.

Microsoft makes good operating systems, and it is widely regarded. Out here in the southwest US we tend to let the cowboys handle the cows, and the cobbler to mend shoes. Neither one would be the best at what the other one does.
Try these two programs Spyware Doctor Starter edition and SuperAntispyware both are free and will kill this trojans dead in there tracks. As a precautionary measure go online to Trend Micro Housecall to make sure everything has been cleaned successfully. Guaranteed to work 100%! Good luck.
Zlob-x.a is a Trojan that distributes IEDefender. Zlob-x.a affects Windows operating system, changing files and settings on your computer.

IEDefender is a rogue anti-spyware program, which displays exaggerated security alerts to trick you into downloading the full version of the program.

Once Zlob-x.a is installed on your machine, your web browser is hijacked and error messages will appear (using the search engine's name) stating that you are infected with spyware and that you need to download IEDefender to solve your problem.

My recommendations is that you remove Zlob-x.a and IEDefender from your computer before further damages occur. Try a free anti-spyware program to do so.

Has anyone downloaded IE 7? And have you experienced problems with it?

I am experiencing the most annoying problem with my pc and when it runs an error report the details say it has to do with IE. When I go to close out of a site it brings up a blank page and immmediately goes to error and closes out of IE altogether. I cannot contact Microsoft by Online Tech Support because it closes out when I open window. HELP! I am going Bonkers. I was told once you update to IE 7 there is no going back.

I personally do not have it because I read so much about problems but I did read where there is a fix for IE7 with MSN. Also type in Internet Explorer 7 browser in your search bar and there are several sites. #8 looks like it can help you. Good Luck.

Has anyone downloaded IE 7? And have you experienced problems with it?microsoft windows xp internet explorer

Go try another browser. You can get rid of IE 7 no problem.

If you are running Windows XP you can restore the system to a time previous to when you installed IE 7.
I had problems too. You can change back to IE6. All you have to do is go into the Add/Remove and remove IE7. It will automatically go back to IE6. To make it complete you will more than likely have to restart your computer.

How can you install IE 7.0?

I need to know how to install IE 7.0. It's for managing stuff quickly(tabs) and many more.

Right now I have IE 6.0 installed in my computer. When I tried to install IE 7.0, It says: go to the link below:

http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/9066/un...

So can someone please tell me what to do to solve the problem?

BTW, I have SP1(where in the world can you download SP2?)

How can you install IE 7.0?web browser

Hey...

U need to upgrade your operating system to Windows XP SP2 in order to be able to install Internet Explorer 7.0 (BETA) in ur machine. To do that, U can download Windows XP SP2 from the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...

However, if u use a dial up and think u cant afford downloading a 266MB file, you can also order SP2 in a CD from Microsoft. In order to order the CD, just visit the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downl...

Now, to install IE7, just download it from :

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/ie7/...

and then I'm sure u shall be able to install it in ur computer. If you still do happen to come across any more problems, do let me know.

Oh by the way, the above link that u've provided, doesn't work. It just takes me to Imageshack homepage.

And well, if you want a good browser that's intuitive, easy to use and also has your fav feature, that is, tabbed browsing...then I must seggest two free browsers that have been in the market for quite a while and their share has been rising faster than ever before. Personally I hate using IE. Anyways, here are the 2 browsers and the links from where u can download them:

Mozilla FireFox 1.5:

About the Browser - http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

Download Link - http://www.mozilla.com/products/download...

Opera 8.5:

About the Browser - http://www.opera.com/products/desktop/

Download Link - http://www.opera.com/download/get.pl?id=...

Trust me, these 2 li'l browsers are gonna save you a lot of hassle. And moreover, always remember, IE7 is a Beta version, as of now. And Beta versions can never be fully trusted. They're expected to crash and act weirdly just about any time even by their manufacturers!! So, do choose wisely!!!

How can you install IE 7.0?windows installer internet explorerHey...thanks a lot for my choosing my answer the best one, mate!! Report It

You download SP2 from the Microsoft update website. and for tab browsing get Firefox. Firefox is more advanced in ad-blocking.pop-ups and can even block flash ads.
Do not get IE7.0

Get FireFox its free and fast

It has tabs and much more

http://24.20.97.172/fox.html
Go to www.google.com. Put in: "how do I install IE 7.0". You will find it is the Beta version that was released on March 20, 2006. This is not released for the public yet, it still has bugs.

You can also ask the serch engine "how do I install service pack 2"-You are probably infected with the sasser worm-which may be causing you not to download IE 7.0, due to not installing service pack 2

By the way there is service pack 3 now. There are new virus's that have come into play since service pack 2.

How do I fix IE in Vista?

there was a power outage last week and my computer turned off; I'm guessing that was what messed it up because since then IE will not load. It takes forever and freezes up. So I downloaded firefox. The problem with that is only certain programs (like Netflix on-line) will only use IE. I looked in my control panel and found that IE was not listed in my programs. Could this mean that it had somehow got uninstalled? Should I reinstall it? This is what I'm guessing because on my XP computer, my Windows Movie Maker keeps closing itself and it was not listed in my programs anymore.

Try running IE with no addons and see if it works.

I have had Vista lose shortcuts before, I think it was due to messing around with uninstalling some junk software.

get XP or linux. Linux has never done that to me.

Alternatively get firefox
yes go to internet explorer and redownload it again after the 2 time it should work better i recomend the yahoo internet explorer it comes with more features
Try going to System Restore and restore the computer to before the power outage. If that doesnt work, go to Microsoft.Com and install IE7 again, or download IE 8 Beta 1 if you are a developer. Hope that helps!!

Looking for IE 5.5 for my Windows 95 computer.?

I have a Compaq Presario Model 4532, 200mhz, 3 gig HD, 64MB Ram, with Windows 95 on it. I did a quickrestore and it has only IE 3.0 I found IE 5.5 at William and Mary a long time ago, but I don't see where you can download IE 5.5 anymore except in German. Any help out there?

HELP PLEEASSE. IE/Firefox/wireless problem.?

Okay so I just hooked up my mums laptop to our wireless network and I tried to connect but the message "FORBIDDEN

you were dennied access because:

access denied by access control list."

This occurs on both firefox 2 and ie 6

I would rather fix firefox than IE.

Best answer will be given to the first solution that works.

Thanks In advance!

HELP PLEEASSE. IE/Firefox/wireless problem.?microsoft office

I don;t think its your browser. There either a rule on your wireless router than prevents your laptop from going to the internet or to a specific web site or there must be a security software installed on the laptop.

HELP PLEEASSE. IE/Firefox/wireless problem.?opera browser internet explorer

The only things that come to mind are:

1. Make sure ur firewall on your mom's laptop allows it to connect to ur network. Some firewalls like McAfee need users to allow entrance into a network.

2. Make sure the firewall on your router is allowing other computers to connect. Most routers these days have build in firewalls that may prevent any other computer from connecting. Do a direct connect to ur router (by logging on to the IP Address), and make sure ur firewall settings are ok.

3. WEP!!!! If u have set a password for ur router, then make sure ur typing it correctly into ur laptop. THis is a very common error.

?Since ur getting a "Forbidden" error, then it must be a security issue. Good luck!!!

Firefox and IE the only browsers left?? They Forgot one!!?

There was a report in yahoo that firefox was the only browser left battling Internet Explorer, They forgot to mention the regular mozilla browser, and more importantly OPERA!! All are far superior to Microsofts IE, and never get much use simply because Microsoft doesn't bundle their competitors software with windows (Duh), and the fact that microsofts Active X platform is taking over sites like this (active x = spyware that is legal by the way) and firefox and opera dont readily accept these without extensions or add-ons (Explorer required a lot of these too, but downloads them in the background so you dont notice), which ARE available easily, you just have to click the button a couple of times! Anyhow, the question is, WILL YOU PEOPLE PLEASE GIVE FIREFOX OR OPERA A GOOD CHANCE? Download one or the other, you will love them once you get used to them. Firefox is a little more like IE now that MS has stolen their design, but Opera is a piece of art (Very Beautiful) Try them, please!

Firefox and IE the only browsers left?? They Forgot one!!?windows media player

Don't use IE, it would be a serious mistake to give MicroSoft total control of the Internet. I always use Mozilla Firefox! its better and safer from viruses too.

Firefox and IE the only browsers left?? They Forgot one!!?windows live messenger internet explorer

I love Opera too : D but I usually use FF seen as it flicks up on my screen in a second whereas Opera takes a little time.
I've been using Firefox for about 7mos now. Too many freeze ups with IE, so I gave Firefox a shot. Very happy with its performance.
i like firefox the best... simple but awesome UI. tried Opera but didn't like it very much.
these days even safari is turning out better than IE.. to be considered i fell.. and its cross platform too!
i love firefox!
I agree totally. I use a Mac so I use Camino as my browser, but on a PC, I would never use IE. It is a useless and dangerous tool. I trust Mozilla way more than IE. I also like Opera, but it's interface takes some getting used to. It is a matter of preference, and both Firefox and Opera are far superior to IE6 and even IE7. Opera is the most secure, you will need to get used to it though, it is different.
There are more web browsers out there than you can shake a stick at, most discussions involve the ones most commonly used. It's nice to see a plug for Opera, it is a good web browser also.

Firefox/IE?

I have firefox now but I still have IE on my desktop. When I want to forward something to a friend, it goes to IE and it won't work right. How can I change it to FF when I want to forward mail?

Open FF

Well, I think what you need to do is set Firefox to be your default browser. You can do this by clicking on Tools in Firefox, then Options, then put a check in the box that says "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup", then open up a new Firefox window, when it asks you to set Firefox as your default browser, click Yes.

How do I get IE 6.0.2900 to open a window in the same page?

For example, if I do a search in Yahoo and click on one of the resulting links, it ALWAYS opens the link in a new window. I want IE to use the existing window.

Also, this is on a work computer, so I am stuck using IE 6.0.2900 xxxxx (ie. whatever the version is that came on the machine, that is what I must use).

Also, in Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, the box "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" is already checked.

Thanks!

How do I get IE 6.0.2900 to open a window in the same page?ireland

I think you're wanting to link to open in your current window, instead of a new tab and/or window. To do this, make sure that this option is activated. IF NOT ~ try rt-clicking the link and selecting "open." Most SHOULD open in the current window, but remember, a lot of sites have coded for their pages to open in a new window so that you don't lose the original site you were on.

Hope it helps in some way.

What makes IE 7 so horrible?

I've seen a lot of questions with people wondering how to get back to IE 6, this makes me uneasy to update to it. What's so bad about IE 7?

What makes IE 7 so horrible?microsoft

G'day Tericka,

I am one of those that have "rolled back", actually did an uninstall of IE7 and my system reverted back to V6, so I expect the people that wrote it new we wouldn't like it, go figure.

Anyway, IE7 just seems way too memory and processor hungry, every page you visit loads slower.

Functional-wise not much has changed but the layout has become more graphical instead of the IE6 graphic/text layout.

I think IE7 is more geared to the high end machines and probably one of those situations where we have the new software but the machines need to evolve to run it properly.

Plain and simple, wait.

Good Luck, Rod

What makes IE 7 so horrible?microsoft access internet explorer

all you have to do is go to add and remove programs and uninstall ie7 and ie6 will be back
dont know,but it locked mine up,had to uninstall. It also had problems with yahoos search engine!!
It's a huge download. It gathers way too much personal info.

It takes a weekend to download. Although the tabbed browsing is nice, it isn't nearly as customizable as IE6. I hate it. Lots of people advised me to go with Mozilla Firefox 2. I use it at work, but for some reason it's hosing up my sound on my home computer. So, there's a bug with THAT browser to work out too!

I'll probably try to resolve problems with Firefox, as I really DO like it. It's a good browser with a lot of nice features, including the tabbed browsing. Meantime, it's IE6 for me.

Cave
Copy of Netscape. So it is not unique. And roll over mouses not working properlyu in IE. Plus it is easy to get hack with IE (pop ups, anoying blocks...)
Everything. You name it.

As a web designer, I would suggest you and everyone else find an alternate solution to IE. Namely Firefox, Opera, or Safari (Mac).

http://mozilla.com/firefox

http://opera.com

http://apple.com/safari (Mac only)
It has slowed down two of my computers, and on one of them firefox no longer works. It looks like microsoft didn't do enough testing with it. It is even worst when you try to use key woods and goes to Msn and recomends their products.
All I know is I have had many more errors,computer locking up etc since I installed it,it has been a nightmare but I'm not really great with computers so I'm almost afraid to mess with it.

AD
Microsoft is what makes it so horrible.
first off... SCREW INTERNET EXPLORER!!!!!!!!!!!

secondly.... FIREFOX IS BEST!!!!!

third... internet explorer is open to attacks and very vulnerable. ie7 may have tabs, but this also causes ie7 to be VERY slow. it takes about 8 seconds to close ie7 wen 6 took about 3. firefox just closes by the way... and it has tabs.

i do NOT EVER recomend downloading ANY internet explorer EVER.... unless you NEED microsoft updates.
IE7 is good in looks but not good in functionality eventhough it is still in BETA edition.

TABBED browsing is really horrible and it is not as fast and as easy as for MOZILLA FIREFOX. LOL Firefox lovers really hate IE7 tabbed browsing.

Microsoft did good job in changing the loook of the browser but they are not upto the extent. They look of IE7 looks more like the themes created by a third party vendor.

It is not even as fast as IE6 and it is completely unreliable.

Finally inorder to install IE7 u have to get GENUINE xp pack.

Windows Updates stop IE from Working?

Windows latest 6 updates keep stoping my IE from finding the web page. I have removed them. They then downloaded 3, and again IE couldn't find a web page. I'm on the net, but IE can't find it.

Windows Updates stop IE from Working?microsoft maps internet explorer

That's a well known problem with windoze ,complain to Microsoft ,or use something different
There has been a lot of talk about Windows Internet Explorer 7 over the last couple weeks as it is finally out of beta.Are you ready for it?I'mnot sure I am. I installed it on one of my machines and it wouldn't work so I promptly uninstalled. At least they give you that option.

If you are a little worried that Windows Update is going to push it down on your systems you might want to check out this new tool from Tim Fehlman over at Daily Cup of Tech. It lets you keep IE7 blocked or at arms length until you are ready for it. I say let the rest of the world debug the thing.
It also happened with me. It affected my whole OS. After Reloading XP. I stopped downloading updates. I now see that my comouter is running better than anything. U see microsoft is forcing its customers to use Vista and Vista is Semi hit. (sorry for that, but this is the truth) and downloading updates is interferring ur security and other settings. better to uninstall the updates though i'm not sure about it.

Consult a computer expert if ur in more doubt.
